Rhodes Family | Spring 2014: South Florida Family Portraits

Jake is the amazing youth pastor at my church, and a couple of weeks ago I had the honor of photographing his awesome and adorable family. I headed out to the Boynton Beach Inlet with Jake, Kristin, and Baby Caleb around sunset for some spring family photos and beach fun. The love that this family has for each other is just so incredible to capture!
Caleb loves to read (which I love!!) so we brought some of his favorite books to the session. He is making a fire truck sound in a few of these! =)

After we finished, Caleb shouted, “all done!” Seriously, so cute. Thank you Jacob & Kristin for allowing me to capture your beautiful family!
Adrianna + Seth in Love: South Florida Engagement Portraits

Adrianna + Seth are one of the most adorable and in love couples I have ever met. Photographing them was so easy. They were just themselves, and all I did was capture their moments. By the end, Seth even said he had forgotten I was there!
You wouldn’t believe it by looking at these photos, but it was absolutely pouring and storming up until the moment that Adrianna + Seth arrived. I literally sat in my car and prayed for about half an hour or so, willing the rain to stop. It stopped and started several times while I was waiting, but when Adrianna + Seth arrived, it was as if God said, “Here is your perfect light!”
It didn’t rain at all for the entire session, although if you look closely, you’ll be able to spot some raindrops from the gorgeous trees that dripped on to them at the beginning of the shoot. I left these drops there because I think they tell the perfect story of a relationship: sometimes there are storms, and rain falls, but LOVE can make it through anything.
Alright, I will stop gushing about now, but fair warning: I am a tad obsessed with how these turned out. But seriously, how could I not be?
Thank you, Adrianna + Seth for allowing me to capture your love! I know that your wedding day is going to be the beginning of a great and awesome journey for you both. I wish you many blessings!

Just for fun and a whole lot of cuteness, I dressed my kitty up in a bow tie collar for Easter Sunday. I think he looks quite dapper. =)

Ryan: Class of 2015, Downtown West Palm Beach, South Florida Senior Portrait Session

Ryan is such an awesome young man. He’s a super laid back, killer wrestler with a heart of gold. Even though Ryan and I just “met” earlier this year at church, I’ve actually known Ryan most of his life. I used to take care of him in our church nursery when I was in high school and he was a little kid, haha! But Ryan is not a little kid anymore, he’s graduating high school in 2015 and almost an adult. Time flies!
I am really falling more and more in love with Downtown West Palm Beach lately. We started our session near the water, which provided a great backdrop for some simple portraits.
Downtown West Palm has so many little hidden, beautiful spots, and Ryan was game for trying out several of them. We walked and drove around, stopping whenever we found a gem.
Of course it wouldn’t be a senior session if we didn’t get a little silly! =) I call this series, “Freedom.”
I still can’t quite believe how grown up Ryan looks in these next few. Soon he will be graduating and starting his adult life. It makes me feel a little old!
You want to know why I love being a senior portrait photographer? Because teenagers are up for anything, literally. When I told Ryan to go climb this wall, he didn’t even bat an eye. He just got on up there and let me take these amazing shots of him. And when I told him to stand in the middle of the road (don’t worry, we had a lookout– thanks, JD!), he ran right in.
For the last part of our session, I wanted a more urban feel. Ryan’s varsity wrestling jacket is such a cool personal item of his, and I really wanted to show it off. This art wall was a totally awesome space to do that in.

Erin + Manny: Maternity Session, Fort Lauderdale Beach [South Florida Maternity Photographer]

I’ve known Manny for several years now. Last year he married a beautiful & wonderful woman named Erin, and their first child, James, is due in about two weeks! I was so excited to be given the opportunity to capture their growing family and Erin’s gorgeous 9 month belly bump! 
We captured our session on Fort Lauderdale beach, which ended up being quite the adventure. Although you wouldn’t know it from these photos, the beach was actually packed with “spring breakers” having a giant beach party! Luckily, Erin & Manny already have two qualities that every parent needs: flexibility and a laid back attitude. They didn’t stress the crowd at all, and we were able to find our own little corner of the beach to have some privacy for our session. 
As the sun began to set and the beachgoers started to pack things up, we headed down to the water for some of my favorite shots of the evening.
The sunset behind the trees was just beautiful, but of course Erin’s amazing and gorgeous bump took center stage!
On our walk over to the beach, I saw this amazing art wall, and just knew we needed to use it in our session. I love how these turned out. Finding those unexpected places to shoot is one of my favorite parts of on-location portrait photography. I love the dolphin giving Erin’s shoulder a “kiss!”
We ended our session as the sun was setting over the water. It was a beautiful spring evening and the breeze and water made for a calming effect as we wrapped.

JD: PBA Class of 2014, Downtown West Palm Beach, South Florida Portrait Session

I first met JD about two years ago at my church. What struck me the most about him was how passionate and devoted he was, and still is, to Jesus. Over the course of the past couple of years, I’ve gotten to know JD a lot better and yet he still impresses me each and every day. He really is an amazing person, and anyone who knows him would completely agree.
To celebrate JD’s completion of his undergraduate degree at Palm Beach Atlantic University, we took some portraits in downtown West Palm Beach near PBA’s beautiful campus.
First we headed to the island to take advantage of the gorgeous water views, and of course, a really big tree!
This area has so many beautiful spots and it really captures the feel of Palm Beach living.
With sunset fast approaching, we looked across the water and remembered that this large graffiti wall had just been completed in downtown. We quickly drove across the bridge and over to the wall to get these last shots with a more urban feel. I love these because they not only capture the uniqueness of West Palm’s urban beach life, but they also so brilliantly capture JD: he is unique, fun-loving, and full of life.
And this is what I like to call, “the money shot.” I love this picture.
Thank you, JD, for letting me capture you at such an important time in your life. I know that you are going to continue to be an inspiration to those around you and accomplish amazing things!
Angela: FAU Graduation Portrait Session: Boca Raton/ Delray Beach Portrait Photography

Angela is a beautiful and vibrant young woman who is graduating with a Master’s Degree in mathematics in May from Florida Atlantic University. To commemorate this amazing accomplishment, Angela and I planned a portrait session that took place on FAU’s campus in Boca Raton and the nearby Atlantic Dunes Park.
The first stop was FAU’s Boca campus, which is bright and lush– the perfect setting for portraits.
We found this awesome FAU Owls logo sign over on the far side of campus, along with a large wall that commemorates the alumni of the school.
Once we were done on campus, we headed north to Atlantic Dunes Park. Since Angela is from Texas, she wanted to have some portraits taken on the beautiful South Florida beach to commemorate her time here.
Angela also pushed me to try something new by using a picture frame as a prop for some shots. I really like how this series came together.
Finally, I really wanted to capture Angela just having fun. She has accomplished so much and I know that she is so happy to be graduating with her Master’s degree. These last few frames were all about just letting loose and enjoying the moment.
I had such a great time working with this girl! Thank you, Angela, for choosing me as your photographer!

{Sneak Peek} Park Vista Cobra Country 5K [gallery is live!]

This past Saturday I shot the Park Vista High School inaugural Cobra Country 5K, an event set up to raise funds for the super talented Park Vista Cross Country Team. The senior & junior classes of Park Vista High School are very near and dear to my heart because all the little kids I used to babysit when I was in high school are now a part of those classes (and also, I am officially old, I digress). One of the boys I used to sit for, Michael, is one of the stars of the team, so when his mom, Carrie, (who is a long time family friend and 5K coordinator extraordinaire) asked me to shoot the event, I was excited to help in any way that I could.
Saturday was one of the most misty and foggy mornings I have seen in a long time, but that didn’t stop the great inaugural event from happening. Everyone was so happy and ready to walk/run! I still have hundreds of photos from Saturday’s event to go through, but I wanted to share this quick shot from the start of the race because I just love how it came out (click on the picture to see it bigger & better).

Vi Living: Lantana Corporate Session

Vi Living is a beautiful independent & assisted senior living facility located in Lantana, Florida. I happen to go to church with the Executive Director, Penny Smith. When she contacted me to do the facilities annual group photo and updated headshots, I couldn’t have been happier. The staff at Vi Living was great to work with and I had a wonderful time capturing them.
